Get on board with our 2017 Homeschool Event at the Southeastern Railway Museum! The museum will be hosting a special event for homeschool families on Thursday, September 28, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Homeschool families will enjoy a special admission price of $7 per person (adults and children). Tickets MUST be purchased in advance (by Sept. 26 at 11:59 pm) and will NOT be available the day of the event at the gate. Train rides are not included. Tickets for train rides (big train, miniature train, and combo tickets) may only be purchased the day of the program. A train ride schedule will be posted at the admissions gate.
This year, our theme is I’ve Been Working on the Railroad. You will join our education conductors as they lead you through 6 stations in the museum to experience a variety of important railroad-related jobs! The program will last 2 hours. Guided by your education conductor, you will receive a lesson, tour the equipment associated with each job, participate in hands-on activities and reenactments, and make your very own themed craft. We will discuss the role each job would play as part of a train crew and how those roles may have changed over time. Each participating child will receive an educational packet to take home to continue their learning experience.
We’ll be learning about the following jobs:
- engineer
- fireman
- track crew
- brakeman
- conductor
- ticket agent
Please arrive no later than 10:15 as our program will begin promptly at 10:30 and you will be required to check in. Tour guides will divide participants into groups of 20 upon arrival. If you’d like to be in the same group as another family, please arrive early to ensure your entire party can stay together.
After the program is over, you are welcome to explore the museum on your own. If you wish to bring a picnic lunch, outdoor picnic tables and gazebos are available on a first come basis.
Space is limited to the first 120 participants, including adults. Registration will be closed after this limit is reached. If the limit is not reached, registration will close on September 26 at 11:59 pm. Participants MUST pre-register online for this program.
