The Southeastern Railway Museum sends our collective thanks to the Gwinnett Creativity team for awarding us a $19,000 Placemaking Grant. The “place” is our baggage car renovation project and creating a rental event space – unique to Gwinnett County. The car is in our shop, where we’re repairing the side sills before painting. It will receive an electric update, insulation, HVAC, and other comforts to make it ready for rentals, including meetings, birthday parties, family gatherings, classroom space, and more. We expect to finish the car in early to mid 2027. Thank you Gwinnett Creativity. We wouldn’t be the same without you.

We are also honored by a Community Impact Grant of $20,000 from our friends at Norfolk Southern.
This grant will support cleaning and remediation work in our Railway Post Office Car “Grand Junction,” Southern Railway coach “Charlottesville,” Cincinnati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific (CNO&TP) coach 1104, some protective work on the “Washington Club,” and maybe one other car in our collection. The goal is to open “Grand Junction” and “Charlotteville” as soon as we can. You should know, Norfolk Southern has been very good to the museum in many ways. We are grateful for their support.

Last but certainly not least, earlier this year we were awarded a $25,000 grant from the Scott Hudgens Family Foundation. They are generous and consistent supporters of our work. This investment will go towards our track infrastructure, replacing ties, improving drainage, and enhancing safety. We are more than grateful.
