Places in Peril – 14 – Time for Thomas?

The Thomas Ruffin is up next in this series, highlighting the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s Places in Peril. In our case, it’s some of our collection, not the museum. We’ve plenty to preserve and seek your support. This piece is a luxury palace in waiting.

We’re seeking corporate or foundation support to stabilize and eventually cosmetically restore the car. Imagine the impact of a freshly outshopped car on our visitors – kids of all ages.

The 1929 Pullman sleeper was built for Southern’s Crescent Limited. Originally a 10-section (upper and lower berths) and two drawing rooms, it was modified six years later into its current configuration of 10 sections, two bedrooms, and one drawing room. This is a heavyweight car that was donated in 1965. The car can be a magnificent restoration project. Its interior has huge potential to represent the grandeur of elegance on the rails.

All Thomas Ruffin needs is everything, and your donation. We invite you to join us as we prepare the museum for future generations. For information on how your gift, your company, or foundation sponsorship can help, please write:      execdirector at train-museum dot com          Thank you!
