Trackside Gallery On View at SRM

Throughout the month of March, SRM visitors had a chance to experience our new exhibit space between the tracks in Building 1.  Following the museum’s move to its present location over twenty years ago, the space was used for artifact and surplus storage, but as of late February, the area between the tracks is open to guests.

In late February, submissions closed for the annual SRM photo contest. The museum received a record number of entries – 122, to be exact! Photos entered into the contest were hung in the new exhibit space for a special ‘trackside gallery’ at the museum.

Visitors were encouraged to cast their votes for their top 5 favorite photos. In-person votes were combined with online Facebook ‘Likes’ to determine a People’s Choice winner.

Photos were submitted to one of three categories: People, Equipment, and Macro. Category winners were selected by professional photographers. The Macro and Equipment categories were judged by Casey Thomason, Norfolk Southern photographer.

Jason and Natalie Hales of Hales Photo selected the winners in the People category.

The gallery will remain on exhibit during the spring, and winning photos will be moved to the display case at the front of the museum in early April.
