SUMMARY:Beebe and Clegg: Their Enduring Photographic Legacy - An Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:“With dramatic images and sweeping promotional strategies\, Lucius Beebe—joined in 1941 by his life partner Charles Clegg—introduced railroad photography and the world of railroading to wide popular audiences. Their pioneering efforts established a broad market and wide appreciation for rail photography\, leading to its far-reaching appeal in print today. \nLucius Beebe (left) and Charles Clegg pose along the tracks of the Southern Pacific narrow gauge in the Owens Valley of California.\nBeebe and Clegg were the right people at the right time to bring the heroism\, charm\, and history of railroading to the public. Their photography and their writing demonstrated the importance of railroading in community life and contributed to America’s historical legacy. Together Beebe and Clegg created more than thirty books on railroading and Western Americana. Their legacy has grown larger than the publications they produced\, as they demonstrated that the railroad serves the nation as an icon of American experience.” \nWith several prints never before seen by the public\, the exhibition Beebe & Clegg: Their Enduring Photographic Legacy has been assembled by the Center for Railroad Photography from source material of the book of the same title (The Center for Railroad Photography & Art\, 2018). The exhibit is supported by a grant from the Gwinnett Creativity Fund. \n \nThe show will be ongoing through Dec. 29.\, during normal museum hours\, Thursdays – Saturdays 10a-5p\, Sundays 12-5p\, in the exhibit hall of Building 1 on the Southeastern Railway Museum. Normal admission fees apply. \nCharles Clegg\, captured a domineering plume of smoke from Santa Fe locomotive 3214 as the brakeman stands on the locomotive\, indicating that it is shoving the train up Raton Pass.

SUMMARY:Track Speeder Days
DESCRIPTION:Take one or more fun rides in a Maintenance of Way classic – the Track Speeder. What in the world? A speeder (section car\, putt-putt\, railway motor car\, track-maintenance car\, quad\, inspection car) is a little self-powered railcar used by inspectors and work crews. It got its name because it was faster than a handcar. \nAs a benefit for the museum\, we ask $4 a person per ride\, 5 and older. Ride tickets will be available at the ticket office and in the gift shop. \nRegular museum hours (Fri/Sat 10a-5p\, Sun 12-5p) and admission applies and includes a choice of our normal train rides. Speeders are additional. Bring a picnic. This is a great chance to get a little closer to the rails and “speed” around the museum. And – it’s a great photo op for you and your family.

Donate your gently used model RR gear\, railroadiana\, books\, art\, gear\, diecast trucks & cars\, airline memorabilia\, transportation related items\, and etc. to the museum by Sunday\, March 10. All items will join SRM’s surplus items in a weekend long garage sale held in Building 1. Normal admission applies. Visit our sale\, ride a train\, walk the grounds\, and do some shopping. DESCRIPTION:Docent-led tours of our two Presidential Pullmans – the 1911 Superb used by President Warren Harding and the 1927 Marco Polo used by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In addition\, the Carter Center joins us on Sunday\, Feb. 18th with a collection of Presidential items worthy of the weekend. Plus – we have new exhibits\, our rolling stock\, train rides\, and more. There will be an assortment of trucks and tractors of different vintages on exhibit in addition to the museum’s historical trains and transit collections.Special exhibits are all provided by volunteers throughout the community and donate their time to make this event a success. Special exhibits are included in your museum admission. If you have an antique (be it car\, truck\, tractor or grandparent) bring them out and show off. The event is included in (and requires) museum admission. $18 adults\, $15 seniors\, $12 children 2-12. Children under 2 are free\, we do ask that you enter the number of them attending so we can maintain a count. Hayrides\, if available\, are handled by the various tractor clubs participating in the event with a minor donation \nAdvance tickets are available on our ticketing website\, ThunderTix
