Thursday, September 22nd
10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Get on board with Homeschooling Day 2016 at the Southeastern Railway Museum! The museum will be hosting an open house for homeschool families on Thursday, September 22, starting at 10:00 am. Homeschool families will enjoy a special admission price of $7 per person. Train rides on our historic train will be an additional $3.00 per person (there is a $1 discount per ticket for advance online purchases).
This year, we will look at Rails Around the World. You will take an international tour, so make sure to get your passport stamped at each station! The program will last 1 hour and 30 minutes (not including a train ride) starting at the time you choose while purchasing your ticket. You will start with an audio/visual presentation on 5 railroads, each from a different continent. Then you will visit 5 stations, one for each railroad, with each station lasting about 15 minutes. The stations will include a variety of short lessons centered around each train (including geography and science), activities, and crafts. Homeschoolers will receive a packet at the start of the program that they will use during the program and can take home to continue their learning experience.
After the program is over, you are welcome to explore the museum on your own. If you wish to have a picnic lunch, picnic tables are available on a first come basis.
There are time slots available in 15-minute increments, and space is limited to 20 for each time slot. Once a time slot is full, it will be closed. Participants MUST pre-register online for this program. Tickets are managed at ThunderTix.
Registration deadline is 5:00 pm on Friday, Sept 16.
