Southeastern Railway Museum cancels all events and operations through at least May 15

The Southeastern Railway Museum is canceling all events and operations until at least May 15 in response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.

The museum previously announced a temporary closure until April 8 because of the outbreak, but museum officials revised the date based on guidance from local leaders and health experts.

The museum has seen no suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19, and no recent visitors to the museum have reason to worry.

“We are disappointed with the need to cancel events, but we are doing so out of an abundance of caution,” said Randy Pirkle, executive director of the museum. “We appreciate everyone understanding our need for flexibility at the moment, and we look forward to resuming normal operations as soon as possible.”

With the change, the museum is canceling its Fast Track 5K race previously set for May 9 and its Second Thursday events on April 9 and May 14. The museum is also rescheduling its Caboose Days celebration originally set for April 4-5 and the Steak Cook-Off previously set for March 28; the museum plans to announce new dates for those events at a later time.

The museum may announce additional changes to its schedule based on guidance from health experts at the local, state and federal level. Please check the museum’s website and social channels for information.
