HO-Scale Model Railroad February Updates

by David Koch

The HO model railroad crew is only a few square feet away from scenery covering every spot on the layout. This will mark a milestone and complete the “scenery” phase of the project. We will take a deep breath, enjoy the fruits of our labor, and turn our attention to details, automation, and chasing the always evolving operational challenges.

One of the highlights of the past month was the completion of Mystery Mountain. The lonely mine, previously surrounded by a barren mountainside, is now surrounded by rocks and lush vegetation. The mine trains travels along the steep cliff overlooking the engine facility and industries below.

The town of Lost Mountain has come alive with people walking under street lights while shopping for everyday essentials. The lake below the town has realistic water with couples enjoying a relaxing canoe ride. After the train passes and the operating crossing gates rise, it’s a short drive down the street to the depot where you can see everyday folks waiting for the next train.

We improved the electronics to better support the new effects added every week and implemented a wireless control capability. With the new engines, recently added to the roster, and the ability to operate trains in the yard and industrial area, we look forward to the weekends when we put on a show for the visitors with multiple trains operating on the Georgia & Tennessee Railroad.
