Music Comes to Southeastern Railway Museum this September and October

Georgia Power No. 97, an 0-6-0T that H. K. Porter built in 1943 for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, pulls a train at the Southeastern Railway Museum in August 2003.

The Southeastern Railway Museum will host a series of concerts for attendees.

The music kicks off with Young Again Band, which will be performing Neil Young music and more from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. The band returns for a second performance from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30.

The Southeastern Railway Museum on Sept. 22 will offer free admission to anyone who signs up for a free ticket through Smithsonian Magazine; to secure a free ticket, visit smithsonianmag.com/museumday/museum-day-2018/. Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris has declared the day as Southeastern Railway Museum, Smithsonian Day in the city.

The Heard with Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame Honoree Bill Long will perform from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Pickxen returns to the museum for a set from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6.

On Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 6-7, the Southeastern Railway Museum will host steam-powered rides at the museum. The museum will host Jeddo Coal No. 85, named “Mack,” marking the first time in roughly 15 years that a steam train has operated at the museum.

Blackfoot Daisy rounds out the schedule from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.
